  Liposuction
Belly-fat
Liposuction is carried out following a diet to remove the localised excess fat, especially difficult to remove, such as belly-fat.
This procedure is not a slimming method, but a way to remove excessive fat located in isolated areas that cannot be lost with a diet and intensive exercise. It is also called liposplasty. As well as the thighs and buttock, the hips, the internal part of the knees and abdomen, liposuction can also successfully address other problems such as gooseneck.
The procedure
Depending on the cases, it is performed under local anaesthetic, with light sedation or general anaesthetic. The duration of the procedure varies according to each case.

Fatty tissue is removed through a cannula which may sometimes be power assisted to preserve subcuticular vessels. The cannula is introduced through a small incision, which will not be noticeable afterwards. Fat is progressively harvested but a one centimetre fat layer is kept under the skin so as to avoid any possible irregularities. Superficial cellulite is hardly altered.

Duration of the surgery
The patient will stay in hospital for one night if the procedure is performed under general anaesthetic. In some cases, he or she may stay only for a day.
Post-operative care
A compressive garment is applied on the treated areas. Sometimes a surgical drain is required. The patient will experience moderate discomfort. Dressings are removed one week after surgery.
Problems and complications
Usually bruising subsides within a few weeks. Collections of blood and infections rarely occur, and loss of skin sensitivity subsides within a few weeks.
The final result is obtained after a period of about three months, once the oedema has completely subsided. Revision may sometimes be necessary but is unusual. Pain in the calves post-operatively can be caused by deep venous thrombosis and in these cases it is especially important for the patient to contact the anaesthetist or the surgeon.
